When we are speaking of law some basic questions will arise. What is law? Why law is necessary? How the law is made? How the law is legitimized? What are the main elements of law?

Laws (sets of rules) are concerned with the social control of persons in communities. Without community, living in isolation, humans would not require laws. However, the human being does not live in isolation but firmly in community. In each community "laws" emerge for the regulation of the individual's behaviour, to govern the operation of the community. We can say, therefore, where there is a society, there must be law. If there were be no law, there were be no order and no peace. The great American jurist, Karl Llewellyn is true when, in his Law-Jobs Theory ( in 1940),suggested that actually law is about problem-avoidance and problem-solving. After all, laws help the human beings and their societies to solve their conflicts peacefully and live in a calm atmosphere.

To answer the above-mentioned questions requires discussing some matters such as law, history of law, government, property and so on.

This book intends to present an overall picture of law for students who want to study law. For the general reader the book also provides an excellent background to legal practices and institutions.

To be successful, a student needs to learn English legal terms and texts. As a matter of fact, today English is a good gun for those who want to catch law in general. If you are equipped with this gun you can go thought the world via internet and get necessary information.

This book involves 5 chapters; each of them involves some sections. In each section there are some four-options questions, a subject for more discussion, filling the blanks, legal and Latin terms.

It is recommended to the teachers to take serious the following instructions:

a) Divide your time according to the outlines presented in each section.

b) When you want to present the "for more Discussion" divide the students in several groups and discuss about the suggested question. Both students and teacher must speak in English, even broken.

c) Devote more scores to activities in class.

It is recommended to the students to take serious the following points:

a) Study the main text carefully;

b) Study new words (presented under Word Study) carefully and then see English- Persian dictionary;

c) Answer the four- options questions according the main text;

d) Before you want to discuss in class it is necessary to search (e. g. via internet). Try to speak English, even if you couldn't find any new information. You may state what you did to get information;

e) Under the "Filling the blanks..." the suggested text intends to enable students to get overall information on the legal matters;

f) Each sub-chapter contains some legal or Latin words or phrases. These terms or words are very useful for students.
